Year 4
Welcome to Year 4!
We are excited to begin another fantastic year of learning, discovery and fun. In our classroom, we embrace kindness, respect and resilience, ensuring that every child feels safe, supported and inspired to achieve their very best.
Our class teacher is Miss Smith, and our wonderful support staff are Mrs Dewick, Mrs Burt and Ms Knott. We are all looking forward to a happy and successful year together.
Our Class Ethos
Our class ethos is Daisy the Dove, representing our commitment to promoting peace.
Peace is more than the absence of conflict; it grows through justice, love, and understanding. We are called to be peacemakers by choosing words and actions that reflect kindness, respect, and compassion, and by building positive, caring relationships with others.
Our Daily Routine
Each morning, we focus on developing the core skills that provide the foundation for learning. These include: Mathematics, English, Mastery, Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS), guided reading and Religious Education (RE).
Throughout the week, we also enjoy a broad and exciting curriculum, including: Geography, Art, Design Technology (D.T), Music, French, Spelling, Handwriting, History, Computing, PSHE, RSE, PE and Science.
Our curriculum is designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, confidence and a love of learning.
Reminders
PE
Our PE lessons take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Children should come to school wearing their full PE kit. Please ensure that long hair is tied back and all jewellery is removed.
Home Learning
Home learning is set every Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday.
Reading
Please read with your child every day and record this in their reading record. Regular reading at home is one of the best ways to support your child's progress and develop a lifelong love of books.
Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)
Children practise their times tables daily in school and are encouraged to continue practising at home. This helps prepare them for the Multiplication Tables Check in Term 6, which assesses pupils' fluency in recalling multiplication facts up to 12 × 12.
Forest School
Forest School dates will be shared in advance via ClassDojo. On these days, children should wear long-sleeved tops and full-length trousers and bring:
- Wellies
- A pair of spare shoes/clothes
- A warm, waterproof coat
- Hat, scarf and gloves (when needed)
- Please ensure all clothing and belongings are clearly named.
In Dove Class, we are more than a classroom—we are a family. We celebrate each other's successes, support one another through challenges, and ensure that every child feels valued, respected and heard. We can't wait to share an exciting and memorable year with you!
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." – Nelson Mandela
