Year 3

Welcome to Poppy the Popokotea Class!

We are a friendly, hardworking class who love learning together and challenging ourselves every day.

Our class teacher is Miss Harris.
Our support staff are Mrs Newing, Ms Knott and Ms Westbrook.

In Year 3, we have Maths, Reading, English and Spellings every morning. In the afternoons, we learn a wide range of subjects including History, Geography, Science, RE, Art, DT, Computing and French.

Our Learning Routine

  • PE days: Tuesday and Friday (please come to school in full PE kit and ensure no jewellery is worn)
  • Home Learning: set on Wednesday and due in on Friday
  • Reading: aim to read 3–4 times a week and record this in your reading record
  • Times tables: practised regularly on TTRS to build fluency and confidence

We take pride in our presentation, always try our best, and support one another in our learning.

Our Learning Experiences

Our learning is enriched through creative hooks, immersive storytelling, and real-life experiences that bring our curriculum to life.

Recently, we explored a mysterious Crystal Cave and entered the Tomb of the Whispering Sand, linking our English and History learning.

We have also enjoyed educational visits to Hampton Court Palace and the Dover Museum, helping us deepen our understanding of history in real-life contexts.

Coming up, we are looking forward to trips to Dover Castle and Solleys Ice Cream!

Our Class Ethos

In Poppy the Popokotea Class, we are guided by the Preferential Option for the Poor, reminding us to always put those most in need first.

We aim to:

  • Work to the best of our abilities
  • Be kind, caring and respectful
  • Help and support others in our learning
  • Show pride, resilience and positivity in everything we do

We live out our Catholic values through kindness, resilience and respect for others in all we do.
